W3D1

Did this workout while the kid was taking a tennis lesson.
It went ok. I ran from the country club to the end of orchid and back. Funny how those small elevations turn big when you're running.

Back to the Couch to 5K

Took a year off from running at all.
Now, I'm good and rested.

Started back on the Couch to 5K program a couple weeks ago. The first "workout" was a little tiring but nothing like it was when I began it two years ago.
I've basically cruised through the first two weeks and tonight will begin Week 3.

For anyone who stumbles upon this entry and hasn't a clue what the C25K plan is, Google it. It absolutely works.
Two years ago, I began this program after five or six years of doing pretty much nothing ... and gaining weight the whole time. Nine weeks later, I was running 3-4 miles and feeling good doing it.

Thanks ... giving

It's been a long time, so let's catch up quickly:
I stopped running and I'm not sure why. I know that I feel much, much better when I run. Just haven't been able to make myself go do it lately. Maybe I'll just run in odd-numbered years. We'll see.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving 2010. I believe that's Nov. 25 if you're scoring at home.
Watched the movie "Lean on Me" with April and the girls.

While friends and neighbors are out Black Friday shopping, I'm reclining on the sofa at 1:37 a.m. thinking of all the things I want to say. No idea where this is going but here goes:

1) I really, really want to keep this blog current. Even if its just to keep a journal for myself, it'll be a good exercise.
2) I think Thanksgiving might be my favorite holiday. I have really good Thanksgiving memories, though most of them are quite fuzzy. It's definitely the time I felt the most connected with my extended family while growing up.
3) I must lose weight. Trying to drink more water. Guessing exercise would help also.
4) I love watching my kids compete. The past 15 months watching the oldest daughter play tennis has been a load of fun. Watching her improve, watching how much she loves the game and wants to improve. Watching her set goals, then meet or exceed them. Waiting for younger daughter to figure out exactly what she wants to compete in... Anxious to see her grow in the next couple of years and find out which direction her interests will take her.
5) I have an excellent circle of friends. I'm big on loyalty and I have some of the most loyal friends I could ever imagine.
6) I don't miss writing for a living. It's the organizing a sports section that I miss.
7) I think my true calling might have been as an intramurals director. I keep getting credit from people for organizing little tennis tournament and things like that. What people don't realize is that it's actually this weird sickness I have for writing ideas on paper and then seeing them to fruition. I get this rush from organizing athletic events ... and just organizing people.
8) I have a weakness for lists.
9) My relationship with my sisters has never been stronger than it is now. Maybe its maturity or maybe it's the shared grief of losing two parents, I'm not certain. They're both wonderful people, though.
10) I love my wife more today than the day I married her. Honestly.
11) I worry about not living long enough to meet my grandchildren.
12) Searcy is a weird little town. I guess all small towns have their strange little quirks but Searcy seems to have more than most places.

Another one down...

Hadn't run since last Saturday and my legs felt it after a while. Also ran up some hills in Belle Meade, which wasn't that much fun. Have a long run (48 minutes, I think) coming up later in the week. That should finish Week 7.

100 miles

Ok, besides topping the 100-mile mark (since Memorial Day), there was really nothing memorable about today's run. Ran at about 8:30 a.m.... pretty cool out but nice.

That's W7D1 of the OHR.

Week 6 is over

Took me six days to find the time to run again, but I made the 41-minute run tonight.
That finishes Week 6 of the OHR. I made it quite easily, actually. I even ran the big hill on Argonne at the end of it.
Pretty certain I could have hit an hour tonight.
Nice, cool night to run.
Ran right at 3.6 miles, which gives me...

W6D2 is behind me

Ran 33 minutes tonight. Nice weather for a run. Feet are hurting at the end of the run, though.
